Refined Fuels Blending Solution

The additive system, designed as a modular skid, was installed on-site and included essential components for additive handling. This system allowed for controlled injection rates, tailored to the specific requirements of the client.

Sky Eye aimed to design and deliver a modular refined fuel transloader blending package to facilitate the efficient transfer of refined fuels from railcars to trucks at Ashcroft Terminal in Western Canada. The goal was to enable smooth handling of bio-diesel and SAF blends, including HRD, USLD, and JET-A, with flexible operational capabilities.

Key Details:
System Features: Includes a refined fuel transloader, header piping, an additive and dye system, and a coalescer.

Flow Capacity: Equipped with dual pumps capable of combined flow rates ranging from 1200 to 2200 LPM.

Technology: Utilizes PD flow meters linked to a flow computer for accurate measurement and control. The system features a ground monitoring system to prevent static buildup and an air eliminator piping system to remove unwanted gases.

Additive System: A standalone skid with an additive tank, level switch, pressure relief valve, and additive pump. This system was modular and integrated on-site with the transloader for precise additive injection.

Sky Eye was responsible for the engineering, design, fabrication, delivery, and commissioning of a comprehensive blending package. The blending package consisted of a refined fuel transloader, header piping, 2 additive skids and a coalescer filter vessel.

The header system was designed to sit on grade parallel to 4 railcars and be connected via hoses. The intermediate connection between the header system and the transloader is via hose to allow for flexibility in positioning. The transloader was designed to offload and load railcars and trucks efficiently. It featured dual Gorman Rupp pumps with high flow capacity and advanced flow measurement technology. The flow meters were connected to a flow computer that managed recipe corrections, recorded transactions, and provided remote communication capabilities. The ground monitoring system ensured safety by preventing static buildup, and the air eliminator system prevented gas contamination in the metering system.

The additive system, designed as a modular skid, was installed on-site and included essential components for additive handling. This system allowed for controlled injection rates, tailored to the specific requirements of the client.

Challenges:
One of the main challenges was accommodating the client’s request for the ability to unload both railcars into trucks and trucks into railcars. Sky Eye addressed this by engineering a transloader unit with two load arms and a common header section. This innovative design enabled the client to use one load arm for truck loading and the other for railcar filling, simply by switching connections to the common header.

Results:
The project successfully met the client’s operational needs, providing dual functionality for loading both trucks and railcars. The transloader achieved flow rates up to 1500 LPM, aligning with the client’s expectations and operational requirements. The flexible design and high performance of the system enhanced the efficiency of fuel transfer operations at Ashcroft Terminal.
