CHEMICAL TRANSLOADING: THE MULTI-COMPOUND SOLUTION

This transloader represents a major efficiency gain and cost savings for our client in their ability to move three chemical products via one mobile unit.

In 2024, the Sky Eye team was contracted to deliver a multi-compound chemical transloader. Our client needed to move multiple commodities but wanted to avoid the capital and logistical costs of running three separate transloaders. This multi-commodity unit solved that challenge by incorporating three separate and fully independent chemical transfer systems into one transloader.was built to handle three distinct chemical products – Caustic Soda (NaOH), Phosphoric Acid (H₃PO₄), and Hexane (C₆H₁₄).

This solution was the first of its kind for Sky Eye and is a new solution in the industry—one we’re now leveraging for other customers who are looking to get more out of a single chemical transloading asset.

Functionality:
This transloader is designed for top-unloading railcars, complete with a gangway for truck-top access, with each product flowing through its own dedicated stainless-steel pump, and custody transfer metering was integrated into the design to take place before the chemicals were loaded into trucks.

Key Features:

  • Three Separate Piping Systems: Designed for complete chemical compatibility and zero cross-contamination between products.
  • Custody Transfer Metering: Generates accurate ticketed output for reliable product tracking and billing.
  • Autonomous Operation: Equipped with an on-board diesel generator for complete portability and automated system control.
  • Freeze Protection: Heat tracing and insulation were added throughout to protect product flow in cold weather conditions.
  • Fully Mobile: The unit is being used in Central Canada, but its trailer-mounted design allows the client to reposition it across the country as needed.
  • Safety Systems: Includes grounding protection, fall protection for safe top-of-railcar access, and a thoughtful layout to support safe and efficient operator workflow.

Impact:
This transloader represents a major efficiency gain and cost savings for our client in their ability to move three chemical products via one mobile unit. It’s also a proud first for our team: a highly engineered, multi-product solution that’s already shaping future builds in the chemical transloading space.
